Pop

Fluf is one of the most promising melodic-punk-alternative bands on the local scene. After three independent CDs marked by crunchy and catchy guitar riffs and gruff but heartfelt singing from bandleader O (Otis Barthoulameu), Fluf is reportedly close to signing its first major-label deal, with O.C. based, MCA-distributed Way Cool Music.

The San Diego-O.C. band, which also includes bassist Jonny Donhowe and drummer Miles Gillett, figures to have many well-wishers, thanks to the friendships O has built by lending support as roadie and fan for bands he enjoys.

* Who: Fluf, the Letdowns.

* When: Friday at 9 p.m.

* Where: The Lava Room, 1945 Placentia Ave., Costa Mesa.
