Ball fields are not opera houses. No one wants to sit quiet as a mouse, waiting until the end to cheer. But be positive, not instructional or ready to point out every error, says Darrell Burnett, a clinical and sports psychologist from Laguna Niguel.
Some suggestions for parents and coaches to say:
* Good for you!
* You figured that out fast.
* You’re getting better every day.
* Niki, Wonderful!
* Good thinking.
* Way to go!
* Keep working on it; you’re getting better.
* I’m proud of the way you played today.
