Promoter Gives Up on the Olympic
Peter Broudy has become the second promoter to abandon the Olympic Auditorium in the two years since boxing was brought back to the downtown structure.
Broudy took over from Bob Arum 15 months ago, but found he couldn’t draw large enough crowds to justify continuing. His largest audience was just under 4,000 in a building that holds 7,300. Broudy cited fear of crime as the largest cause of the sparse crowds.
He plans on relocating his shows to the Veterans Memorial Building in Culver City, capacity 1,500. Broudy will begin monthly Friday night fights there May 17.
He planned on informing Olympic Auditorium officials of his departure this weekend.
