Up From the Ashes: Guy Arnone, the Canyon Country man struck by lightning in March, will discuss his hair-raising experience on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” this Monday. . . . Although he still suffers from occasional pain and fatigue, Arnone does not consider himself unlucky. “I don’t ask, ‘Why me?’ ” he said. “I ask, ‘Why am I still here?’ I could have been a pile of ashes.”

On the Mend: Martin Lawrence, recovering from an altogether different incident, is also scheduled to step before the cameras next week. . . . Film equipment has been ready and waiting outside City Hall, the setting for part of the actor’s current project, “Nothing to Lose.” Lawrence was hospitalized Tuesday after walking into a Sherman Oaks intersection and cursing at passing motorists.

Wise Words: Multimedia artist Laurie Anderson, receiving an honorary degree at CalArts’ commencement Friday (B1), warbled a quick melody for institute President Steven Lavine, above, and the graduating class. A decade ago, it was avant-garde composer John Cage who was so honored, and he, too, put on a show. “He stood there absolutely silent,” an institute staff member said. “That was his performance.”

It Ain’t Over: Cal State Northridge’s baseball team has more wins than any other Division I squad this season, but the Matadors are still not assured of NCAA postseason play. Even if they end up beating BYU for the Western Athletic Conference title (C10), CSUN must face the West Coast Conference champion in a playoff for an automatic bid. Otherwise, the Matadors will have to wait for an at-large invitation.
