“A Sunday Afternoon in Laguna,” a benefit art auction for Musical Theatre Company, takes place--where else?--on the grounds of the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts. On the agenda are a champagne reception at Tivoli Terrace Restaurant, a silent auction and a musical celebration in the Forum Theater featuring Susan Egan from Broadway’s “Beauty and the Beast.”

The Costa Mesa-based Musical Theatre Company will present Stephen Sondheim’s “Sunday in the Park with George,” based on a work by French pointillist painter Georges Seurat, at the Forum Theater this summer.

Dance

Ballet Pacifica wraps its current season this weekend with two premieres: “City Sky,” with choreography by Molly Lynch, the troupe’s artistic director, has a dark, disturbing story by John Glore, South Coast Repertory’s literary manager. “BWV 1063” has movement by Los Angeles’ Michael Kane and music by Bach. Familiar works complete the program.

Pop

Concrete Blonde had a choice rock song called “God Is a Bullet.” That might be amended to “God Has a Bullet,” thanks to recent Billboard chart action by the Christian rock bands Jars of Clay and the Newsboys, which headline a nine-band concert Saturday at Knott’s Berry Farm.

The Nashville-based Jars have earned a gold record with their solid debut album, which takes an acoustic but rocking approach to the Live/Toad the Wet Sprocket school of earnest pop-rock emoting. The Newsboys, an Australian band that’s a veteran of the Christian scene, has, like Jars, gotten help from a secular label (Virgin) in promoting its latest album, the eclectic, sometimes edgy pop-rock release “Take Me to Your Leader.”

Special Event

A National Tap Dance Day celebration is on tap for Saturday at Dance Etc. Creative Arts Center in Yorba Linda. The public is invited to a performance by professional tap luminaries including Bob Scheerer, Glen Turnbull, Rusty Frank and Leann McGregor. The tap showcase concludes a daylong series of master classes for intermediate to advanced dancers of all ages.

Congress declared an annual National Tap Dance Day in 1988 to commemorate the birth of Bill “Bojangles” Robinson.
