Southwest Museum, Highland Park
The Southwest Museum, a mission-styled 1914 landmark at the foot of Mt. Washington, is the keeper of the ancestral history of American Indians and Hispanic Americans. The impressive castle-like museum, which rises from the hilltop, was built by Charles Lummis, a poetic individual who was deeply fascinated by the romantic myth of the Southwest--its native Indians and Spanish settlers and their history, art and architecture.
