Wide receiver William Pollard, playing in his first game for the Piranhas, caught two touchdown passes Friday night as the Piranhas defeated the winless Texas Terror, 49-20, in front of 10,135 at the Houston Summit.
Pollard, who had one touchdown reception called back in the third quarter, put Anaheim ahead, 24-10, with 23 seconds left in the first half, scoring on a 13-yard pass from Scooter Molander.
Pollard, who caught seven passes for a game-high 87 yards, capped his performance with a 45-yard reception of a pass from Troy Kopp with 33 seconds left in the game.
“It felt real good,” Pollard said. “It took me awhile to get going, but once I caught my first pass, I settled down.”
The Piranhas, who began last season 0-4 as the Las Vegas Sting, are undefeated this season at 4-0, and have outscored opponents this season, 187-120.
“It was atrocious,” Texas Coach John Paul Young said. “It was a comedy of errors and the laugh was on us at the end of the game. It was just a pathetic showing of offensive production.”
Jerome Smith also scored two touchdowns for the Piranhas. Smith scored on a 19-yard pass from Molander with 4:58 left in the first half and with 9:20 remaining in the third, Smith returned a fumble four yards for the score, putting Anaheim up 34-10 after an Ian Howfield kick. Howfield went six for six on one-point field goals.
Molander, who completed 19 of 24 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns, was named the game’s most valuable player. Smith earned the Ironman award.
