Agoura Hills Adds Bus Route to Leo Carrillo State Beach

Agoura Hills plans to expand its summer beach bus program to provide service to Leo Carrillo State Beach for young people enrolled in a state-run junior lifeguard training program.

In the past, the bus ran only to Zuma Beach Park. The line was extended to accommodate an increasing number of young people who have been enrolling in the lifeguard program at Leo Carrillo, about five miles to the north, said Jennifer O’Hara, recreation supervisor for Agoura Hills.

Under an arrangement approved by the City Council last week, the county will charge the youngsters $15 for a pass, good for the entire summer, which will allow them to travel round-trip from Zuma Beach Park to Leo Carrillo State Beach, O’Hara said. The $15 fee is in addition to a 50-cent each way charge that riders now pay to go from Agoura Hills to Zuma, she said.

The county will forward the $15 to Durham Transportation, which contracts with Agoura Hills for the bus service, O’Hara said.

This season, the summer beach bus program will run Mondays through Saturdays, from June 22 through Aug. 31, officials said. Agoura Hills started its summer beach bus program in 1985.
