Acting on a tip, Los Angeles detectives arrested a 23-year-old man in Banning Thursday for the March 19 shooting death of a Boyle Heights store owner.

Gilbert Sandoval was arrested in Riverside County and was brought back to Los Angeles to be booked for murder, attempted murder and robbery, Det. John Spreitzer said.

“An anonymous caller saw the picture [of Gilbert Sandoval] on TV and called us,” Spreitzer said. “The caller led us to the suspect.”

Earlier this week, the Los Angeles City Council approved a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.

Sandoval is the alleged gunman in the robbery that resulted in the death of Jesus “Chuy” Ramirez, 45, owner of Ramirez Market on the 2900 block of East 8th Street.
