Restaurant Permit Is Rejected

Although the businessman said he was planning to open a restaurant, City Council members have turned down his application because they decided it sounded more like a nightclub that could become a nuisance to neighbors.

Greg Mulholland originally had proposed building a nightclub near Newport Boulevard and 17th Street.

Later, he altered his proposal in an effort to gain council approval for the project. He proposed changing the closing time from 2 a.m. to 11 p.m. and agreed not to offer live entertainment. There would be music by a disc jockey, however.

Council members were not swayed. They were also concerned that any business run by Mulholland would cause problems for the neighborhood because his other ventures have been the subject of community outrage in the past.

Mulholland could not be reached for comment.
