Boy, 8, Hit by Van, Has Spleen Removed

An 8-year-old boy was in was in serious condition at Childrens Hospital Tuesday after being struck by a van in North Hollywood.

The boy, who police said was thrown at least 30 feet through the air, suffered a ruptured spleen, among other injuries. Doctors removed the spleen.

Valley Traffic Division Officer James Curry said the boy, whose name was not released, darted into busy traffic at about 8 a.m. Tuesday in the 7000 block of Fulton Street near Hart Street when he was struck by a van. The boy was not using the crosswalk, Curry said.

After the driver summoned help for the child, the boy was airlifted to the Los Angeles hospital. The driver was not arrested in the accident.
