SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A fire burned about 60 acres of brush Wednesday in the mountains west of Lancaster, and was fought by 200 firefighters from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, aided by five helicopters and two airplanes.

The fire, north of the Lake Elizabeth Country Club, burned from about 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. and did not threaten the course or an adjacent residential area.

The cause was being investigated, said Betty Parker, spokeswoman for the L.A. County Fire Department.

Three smaller fires also burned in the area.

The largest was a 30-acre blaze near Palmdale Hills Drive in Palmdale. It was controlled by 7 p.m.

The others burned less than an acre each in Palmdale and Acton. They did not threaten structures and their causes were being investigated, Parker said.
