Healthy, 6-week-old twins Shawna and Janelle Roderick were released from Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital on Monday, just 11 days after surgeons successfully separated the girls who were born joined at the abdomen.
The beaming parents, Jeff and Michelle Roderick, both 29, said they were headed home to Prescott, Ariz., but would return to Loma Linda later for a routine checkup. No further surgeries are anticipated.
“We’re sad to be leaving but happy to be going home,” said Michelle Roderick, a science teacher.
Dr. Gibbs Andrews, who headed the 24-member surgical team that separated the twins, said he expected them to lead normal lives.
