Greg Swindell, released earlier this month by Houston, signed with Cleveland to begin his second stint with the Indians.
Swindell, a 31-year-old left-hander, went 0-3 with a 7.83 earned-run average with the Astros this season. He signed a lucrative, four-year contract after 1992 with Houston but was a disappointing 30-34 there before his release.
Swindell spent six seasons in Cleveland. He won 18 games in 1988.

Owners are impatient with failure to provide the Milwaukee Brewers with a new ballpark and feel team President Bud Selig should consider moving to a wealthier city, American League President Gene Budig said. . . . The Chicago Cubs put veteran reliever Doug Jones (2-2 with two saves and a 5.01 ERA in 28 games) on waivers for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release. Replacing Jones on the roster was right-handed reliever Kent Bottenfield. . . . The Philadelphia Phillies put second baseman Mickey Morandini on the 15-day disabled list because of a sprained right shoulder, the result of a collision with teammate Glenn Murray. . . . Boston Red Sox outfielder Mike Greenwell, who has been on the disabled list since May 3 because of a broken left ring finger, is expected to have surgery this week and could be out four to six more weeks.
