U.S. Olympic welterweight Fernando Vargas of Oxnard will be held out of a pre-Olympic match against Russia at Miami tonight because of a throat infection. U.S. Coach Al Mitchell said the throat infection also kept Vargas from competing when the U.S. and Russian teams met Friday night in Portland, Ore., not because he failed to make the weight, as reported by the Associated Press.
