Gunman Sought in Shooting of Man, 19
Police were searching for a gunman Monday who shot a 19-year-old Oxnard man in the back earlier this week while the man was walking down a south Oxnard street.
Zigiferd Fernandez was released from Ventura County Medical Center on Monday after being treated for a single gunshot wound to the lower back.
Police said Fernandez was walking in the 1200 block of Casa San Carlos at about 9 p.m. Sunday when a gunman fired a shot that struck him in the lower back. Fernandez ran to a house on West Kamala Street where a resident notified authorities, police said.
Fernandez told police he did not know why anyone would want to shoot him. Police said they are looking for a young man, 18 to 19 years old. If caught, police said the gunman would be charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
