Splash Takes Early Lead, Rolls Past Portland

The Anaheim Splash spoiled the Portland Pride’s home opener with an 11-3 victory in a Continental Indoor Soccer League game Thursday in front of an announced crowd of 7,215 at the Rose Garden in Portland.

The Splash’s Dale Ervine, Raffaele Ruotolo and Sam George each scored two goals and Danny Barber scored one and Anaheim led 7-2 at the half.

Bernie Lilavois scored two goals in the third quarter and Oliver Wyss and Ricky Rodriguez each had one in the fourth quarter.

Chris Scott scored two goals and Oth Ngonethong scored one for Portland, which is 1-1 in the Western Division.

Splash goalie Ruben Fernandez had eight saves, five in the first half,as he kept Portland scoreless in the second and fourth quarters.

The Splash, which had 11 blocked shots, outshot the Pride, 21-12, in the first half and 38-27 in the game.

The Splash’s next game will be in Seattle Sunday night.
