Save the Bagel

The bagel abuse we’ve witnessed in recent years is bad enough--chocolate bagels, spicy bagels and whatnot. Even our grand old standby Brooklyn Bagel succumbed a while back with its blueberry bagel.

But this week we came across the most frightening bagel “invention” of all: the bagelrrito. It is, as described by the Institute of Food Technologists, sponsor of the student product development competition in which the bagelrrito was entered, a “ready-to-eat bagel filled with chicken and vegetable salsa.” Yes, it’s two taste trends in one, but do we have to eat it?
