A Fillmore woman was taken to Simi Valley Hospital with fractures of her legs and arms after colliding Wednesday morning with a gasoline tanker truck on California 23 near Moorpark, according to sheriff’s deputies.

The crash, which is under investigation, occurred about 10 a.m. when a car driven by 31-year-old Olaria Navarro of Fillmore drifted into the path of the tanker.

The tanker driver, 42-year-old Nick Chivera of Ventura, told deputies he was climbing a hill at about 30 mph--15 mph slower than the posted speed limit--when he saw Navarro’s gray Ford Tempo heading south.

Navarro reportedly lost control of her car in the approaching curve, crossed the center line in front of Chivera’s truck and collided with the tanker, according to sheriff’s reports. Chivera was not injured in the accident.

Navarro, who was trapped under the dashboard of her car, was freed by firefighters. The roof was compressed into the passenger compartment.
