SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Of Friday’s games in the “War on the Floor” basketball tournament at Sylmar High, the contest matching Antelope Valley and Canoga Park high schools may have been the most densely packed with young stars.

In the Antelopes’ 64-61 victory, four players--three from Canoga Park--were rated by Recruiting USA magazine among the top 100 seniors in Southern California.

Not on the list was Antelope Valley point guard Tony Walker, who scored a game-high 22 points. Among those he outscored were the touted Hunter threesome of Anthony Ellison (20 points), David Redmond (16) and Carloes Harper (12) and Antelope teammate Le’Tre Kelly (21), another member of the top 100 list.

There were six lead changes in the second half. With the score tied, 58-58, and 2 minutes 32 seconds remaining, Kelly stole a lazy inbounds pass by Ellison under Canoga Park’s basket.

After he was fouled, Kelly made two free throws to give the Antelopes the lead for good.

Antelope Valley won its pool and advances to the winners’ bracket to play Long Beach Poly at 10:15 a.m. Sunday. The Hunters finished second in the pool and play Morningside at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Cleveland 69, Montclair Prep 66--Donald Holt scored 36 points for the Cavaliers, who played the first half with only four players because some team members arrived late. Cleveland plays a consolation game at 3:25 p.m. today.
