Fire Chars 40 Acres; Freeway Lanes Closed

A swift brush fire charred about 40 acres and shut down traffic on the Orange Freeway north of Brea on Friday.
More than 200 firefighters from two counties and four water-dropping helicopters fought the fire, which broke out about 2:30 p.m. in the Tonner Canyon area near the Orange Freeway, said Christa Tolliver, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The blaze, fueled by mild winds and dry conditions, took more than three hours to control, firefighters said.
No injuries were reported and the fire didn’t threaten any structures. But the blaze did prompt officials to close the northbound lanes of the Orange Freeway near Tonner Canyon Road, authorities said.
