Pooches’ Playground to Open in September

Share

The $70,000 Redondo Beach Dog Park, funded by the city and the Friends of Redondo Beach Dog Park, is nearing the final phase of construction and is scheduled to open in late September. The park will include fencing, a drinking fountain for dogs, an informational bulletin board with canine tidbits, irrigation and a separate play area for puppies.

“The park is very important because there is no place in the area for people to walk their dogs,” said Sandie Rhodes, president of the friends’ group.

Since the Redondo Beach City Council permitted dog owners to use the area, located at 190th and Flagler streets three years ago, the park has attracted more than 400 dogs on weekends and about 100 on weeknights. Canine owners have been able to take their pets to a small fenced-off area next to the park during the construction.
