Third baseman Tim Wallach, who had hoped to be called up to the Dodgers next week, is expected to be out for two to three weeks because of a broken rib.

Wallach, who was playing for the Dodger class-A affiliate in San Bernardino, broke the ninth rib on his left side in a collision with a runner at third base in the eighth inning of Wednesday night’s game against Stockton.

Wallach was signed by the Dodgers after being waived by the Angels.

Center fielder Chad Curtis has been a Dodger for only a day, but he’s already violated the team’s dress code.

The Dodgers prohibit players from having facial hair, and Curtis arrived at Dodger Stadium with a beard after being traded from the Detroit Tigers Wednesday.

“It’s not a problem, I just need to find a razor here pretty quick,” Curtis said. “Probably in this heat out here in California it will be good to get it off anyway.”

Third baseman Mike Blowers, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in a game against the San Diego Padres on July 17, will undergo surgery today at Centinela Hospital Medical Center. . . . Dot Richardson, wearing her gold medal from the U.S. softball team’s Olympic championship, got a standing ovation when she took her seat in the bottom of sixth inning.
