Deputy Dog Unleashes Bark to Collar Teens
Sheriff’s Sgt. Al Moussa’s bark may be worse than his bite. But three teenagers caught after breaking into Newbury Park High School didn’t want to find out.
Moussa, 38, a veteran of 13 years on the force and former K-9 handler, was part of a team of deputies that ended up chasing the youths down the high school football field after the break-in was discovered.
“Here you had these young kids able to really run and an older officer loaded down with all his equipment and he had to think fast,” said Sgt. Dave Paige of the Sheriff’s Department’s east county division.
Moussa resolved the situation by yelling to the boys that they had better stop or he would sic his dog on them. And it didn’t matter to Moussa that he didn’t have a dog. When the boys failed to stop, Moussa simply commenced barking himself.
“He has a good bark,” Paige said.
It was enough to stop the boys in their tracks, and Moussa was able to arrest them. The youths were cited and released to their parents.
