It’s unusual enough for the Colorado Rockies to win on the road. Beating the Braves in Atlanta, however, is downright startling.

Colorado, the second worst road team in the National League, used Andres Galarraga’s two-run single in a three-run seventh inning Friday night to rally past the Atlanta Braves, 6-4.

The Rockies improved to 4-17 over four years in Atlanta. It was their sixth victory in seven games and fourth consecutive on the road, where they improved to 20-36.

Tom Glavine (12-6), who had won four consecutive decisions, carried a 4-2 lead into the seventh, but loaded the bases on a double by Jason Bates and bunt singles by Eric Young and Quinton McCracken.

Brad Clontz relieved and gave up Ellis Burks’ RBI fielder’s choice to make the score 4-3. One out later, Galarraga singled to center, scoring Young and Burks for a 5-4 lead.

San Diego 4, Pittsburgh 1--Fernando Valenzuela (9-7) limited the Pirates to three hits in 7 2/3 innings and Greg Vaughn hit the 100-RBI mark with a solo homer, leading the Padres at Pittsburgh.

Vaughn’s tiebreaking solo homer started a three-run fourth and made him the first player in history to drive in 100 runs while playing in both leagues in the same season. Vaughn had 95 RBIs with Milwaukee before his July 31 trade to the Padres.

San Francisco 8, St. Louis 6--Barry Bonds hit three run-scoring singles and Osvaldo Fernandez ended his six-game losing streak as the Giants won at St. Louis.

Fernandez (5-12) won for the first time since June 17. He has won only two of his last 18 starts.

Florida 2, New York 1--Luis Castillo, who got his first major league hit earlier in the game, won it with an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, leading the Marlins over the Mets at Miami.

Alex Arias drew a leadoff walk from Doug Henry (2-5) in the 10th and moved up on Terry Pendleton’s sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Joe Orsulak was intentionally walked. Castillo then singled to left, easily scoring Arias.

Houston 5, Philadelphia 1--Shane Reynolds (14-6) pitched four-hit ball for eight innings as the Astros won at Philadelphia.

The Astros scored a run in the second off David West (0-1) on an RBI double by Orlando Miller. They added another run in the third on a balk by West, and scored three more in the fourth.

Chicago 11, Montreal 9--Ryne Sandberg homered twice at Montreal, including his fifth career grand slam, and the Cubs stopped a seven-game losing streak.

Sandberg hit his grand slam in the fifth off Rheal Cormier (7-7) for a 7-5 lead and hit a solo shot in the ninth off Mel Rojas for an 11-8 lead.
