A 15-year-old boy was killed Monday night and his 17-year-old brother was wounded in South-Central Los Angeles, police said Tuesday.
Marlon Quintanilla was fatally shot about 10:35 p.m. Monday as he was talking on the telephone at the northwest corner of 41st Place and Figueroa Street while his older brother, Henry Quintanilla, was mingling with fellow gang members a block away at a catering truck, officials said.
Detectives say a man in a burgundy colored compact vehicle got out of the passenger side of the car, confronted and shot Marlon Quintanilla several times in the head and chest.
Simultaneously, two men in a white VW Bug with gray primer spots started shooting at Henry Quintanilla from the car, officials said.
Marlon Quintanilla was pronounced dead at the scene and his brother was treated for a gunshot wound to the arm at California Hospital and was later transferred to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, officials said.
Both youths are believed to be gang members, police said.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call detectives at South Bureau Homicide: (213) 237-1310 or (213) 485-2504.
