The Westlake Yacht Club will hold its Third Annual Charity Sail-A-Thon Saturday to raise funds for the Casa Pacifica Children’s Crisis Care Center.

The 10-hour sailing marathon features teams of two or more people navigating through a designated course on Westlake Lake from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m..

Pledges--based on the number of laps sailed--will benefit the crisis center in Camarillo.

The club’s first race raised more than $14,000 for the center. Last year, the race raised more than $12,500, which was used to purchase a van for the children, said Susan Artof, race chairwoman.

Sailors may register in one of three divisions: junior, for those 18 and younger; adult, and for the first time, those sailing electric boats.

Trophies will be given to the junior sailor who collects the most in pledges before the start of the race, and to the team that sails the most laps.

Registration for the event will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on race day. There is a a $5 registration fee. A mandatory meeting will be held for skippers before the race begins. Starting time is 11 a.m.

Sailors from the Southern California Yachting Assn. and U.S. Sailing Assn. are expected to attend.

In addition to the race, participants and the public are invited to a $2 continental breakfast, $3 lunch, and $8 dinner on the lake. Visitors may participate in a lottery to guess the total number of laps achieved by all the sailors.
