Dog Owners to Get a Break on Licenses

Share

Dog owners who have failed to license their pets will get a break next month as the city unleashes a four-month amnesty for unlicensed canines.

Thousand Oaks residents who voluntarily license their dogs between Sept. 2 and Dec. 31 will be able to avoid the $20 penalty ordinarily charged to owners of unlicensed dogs.

“All dogs four months of age and older are required to be vaccinated against rabies and licensed,” said Brenda Young, management analyst for the city’s public works department.

The license fee is $10 for dogs that are spayed or neutered, $30 for dogs not spayed or neutered. Dog owners older than 60 pay only $5 to license spayed or neutered dogs.

Starting in September, owners may license dogs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Saturday at the Agoura Shelter, 29525 Agoura Road, in Agoura Hills. Licenses may also be purchased from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at Thousand Oaks City Hall, 2100 Thousand Oaks Blvd.

For more information, call the Agoura Shelter at (818) 991-0071 or City Hall at (805) 449-2446.
