2 Armed Men Sought in Holdup of Bank

Share

Investigators are searching for two armed men who tried to rob a Thousand Oaks bank about 9:30 Monday morning but arrived before employees could open the vault.

One of the men became so frustrated that he fired his gun at the floor of the Bank of America on Lindero Canyon Road, said Sgt. Rod Mendoza, a Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman. The bullet ricocheted off the floor became embedded in a wall, Mendoza said.

“Basically, this was a takeover type robbery,” he said. “The men entered the bank, pulled out their weapons and ordered all the employees into the vault room.”

The employees could not open the safe, and that prompted one of the men to fire his gun before dashing out of the bank and into a white hatchback car. The men were last seen speeding down Lindero Canyon Road.

Both were wearing white baseball caps, blue jeans and white T-shirts.

The investigation is being handled by the FBI, said Supervisory Special Agent Gary Auer.
