Celebrities to Join Bolsa Chica Rally

A rally to save Bolsa Chica wetlands from development will be Sept. 21 at Bolsa Chica State Beach and will feature celebrities including Bonnie Raitt, Graham Nash and Ed Begley Jr., organizers said.

The Bolsa Chica Land Trust, which opposes any development at Bolsa Chica, is hosting the free event, open to the public.

“We just want to point out the value of the Bolsa Chica and make sure the rest of the world knows about it,” Land Trust President Nancy Donaven said.

The group advocates preservation of the entire Bolsa Chica wetlands and mesa.

A 3,300-home development has been approved for the coastal mesa and wetlands area of Bolsa Chica. A public purchase of about 900 acres of the ecologically sensitive wetlands next to Huntington Beach, however, is pending.

Donaven said the rally, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will feature performances by the celebrities and educational exhibits. Begley will co-host the event. There is a $6 fee for parking at the state beach.
