HERE AND NOWHERE ELSE by Jane Brox (Beacon Press: $12.95, 143 pp.). When Brox revisits her family’s farm in rural Massachusetts, she rediscovers the pleasures of working the land and the savor of the vegetables her relatives grow. Taking up residence in an old house, she reflects that her life, “would be strange to them, they who had lived here so long their window glass rippled like quiet water, and their view softened with the distortion.” As she muses on the road not taken, she realizes the effect her decision to pursue a literary career has had on the family enterprise.
