Matilija Canyon Fire Limited to 150 Acres
A fire in Matilija Canyon north of Ojai was contained at about 150 acres, authorities said Saturday.
The fire began about 1:30 p.m. Friday in Los Padres National Forest five miles west of California 33. Crews from the Ventura County and Ventura city fire departments, U.S. Forest Service and California Department of Forestry had the blaze contained by 9 p.m. and out by midnight, authorities said.
About 10 hand crews, four air tankers, two helicopters and a “SuperScooper” water bomber from Van Nuys Airport were called in to battle the blaze, said Los Padres National Forest spokesman Jim Youngson.
Three houses were threatened by the fire but none was damaged. A truck parked at a trail head where authorities say the fire started was destroyed. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
