1995 in Review

Santa Ana Valley won its first league championship since 1977. Beau Wallace rushed for 1,263 yards and scored 19 touchdowns for Santa Ana Valley, which advanced to the second round of the Division V playoffs before losing to top-seeded Servite, 26-6. Villa Park running back Chris Bell, the league’s offensive player of the year who rushed for 1,601 yards, scored three touchdowns in a 35-28 victory over Foothill in the regular-season finale. The victory helped Villa Park clinch a share of the league title and the defeat knocked Foothill, the two-time defending league champ, out of the playoffs. Villa Park advanced to the second round before losing to the eventual champion, El Toro, 38-20. Canyon finished third by defeating Santa Ana Valley, 28-19, in the final regular-season game, but lost to second-seeded Western, 17-7, in the first round of the playoffs. Foothill running back/defensive back Nick Sveslosky earned league MVP honors and El Modena linebacker Tony Romo earned the league’s defensive player of the year and second-team all-county honors.
