Wine collectors and enthusiasts are being coaxed to the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills this weekend for an event that host Butterfield & Butterfield is calling “the most extraordinary auction of fine and rare wines” ever offered in the United States. What makes it so special? Depth of vintage years, wines directly from the chateaux and the sheer volume of first-growth Bordeaux and Burgundies, says Bruce Kaiser, director of the auction house’s fine and rare wine department.

Just for teasers, how about a rich assortment of Cha^teau Le Pin vintages; 1945, 1947 and 1961 Cha^teau Petrus; a double magnum of 1900 Cha^teau Latour; an imperial of 1959 Cha^teau Lafite and 1947 Cha^teau Cheval Blanc in bottle and magnum; as well as a magnum of fabled 1921 Cha^teau d’Yquem. Add a few vintages of Domaine Leroy and the rarest of Romanee-Conti . . . not bad for a Saturday wake-up call.

Two sessions are scheduled: 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Ballroom, Four Seasons Hotel, 300 S. Doheny Drive, Beverly Hills. For information or a catalog, call (213) 850-7500, Ext. 250 or 251.
