900-Acre Controlled Fire Planned Today

Share

The Ventura County Fire Department plans to conduct a controlled burn today from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Sexton Canyon, northwest of Victoria Avenue and Foothill Road in the city of Ventura.

The Fire Department, with the assistance of nearly a dozen other agencies, plans to burn 900 acres of wild-land brush. The burn will reduce the risk of wildfires, provide training for county and city firefighters and improve cattle feed by reducing brush in the area.

Smoke may be present in the canyon area, but officials do not expect it to be substantial.
