Mike Perrance tackled Brea Olinda quarterback Matt Kalcevich for no gain on a fourth-down play at the Sunny Hills 11-yard line to preserve the Lancers’ 23-15 nonleague victory.

Perrance’s big play came with 3 minutes 10 seconds remaining in Friday’s game at Buena Park High in front of about 2,100.

Brea (0-3) scored on a one-yard touchdown run by Scott Leing and a two-point pass play from Kalcevich to Leing earlier in the fourth quarter to pull within eight points. Then, they put together one final drive in attempt to tie the score.

After a fumble recovery by Sione Haiola on the Brea 47 with 9:37, the Wildcats drove to the Lancer 11 before being denied.

Brea scored first in the contest on a 33-yard touchdown pass from Kalcevich to Andy Freeze.

Sunny Hills (2-1) answered by tying the score on a 58-yard scoring pass from Chris Zeiler to Daren Solomon.

The Lancers added 13 points in the second quarter on a 17-yard touchdown pass from Zeiler to Kevin Haiola and two Devon Huff field goals of 24 and 33 yards for a 20-7 lead.

Huff added a 29-yard field goal in the third quarter for Sunny Hills.

Zeiler connected on eight of 17 passes for 149 yards for the Lancers. Solomon caught three passes for 101 yards.

Adam Rodriguez rushed 16 times for a game-high 95 yards to complement Zeiler’s passing.

For the third consecutive game, the Lancer defense held its opponent to less than 100 yards in the first half, limiting Brea to 75 yards, 34 on the ground.
