Bellflower Uses 20-Point Quarter to Beat Fullerton
Bellflower scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to defeat Fullerton, 34-14, Friday night.
Charles Lewis put the Buccaneers up for good with a 40-yard touchdown run 15 seconds into the final quarter. He scored again one minute later on a 51-yard punt return.
Fullerton (2-2) could only muster 14 yards of offense in the fourth quarter after gaining 197 yards in the first three quarters.
“We just broke down,” said Coach Julian Smilowitz.
Bellflower (3-1) dominated the fourth quarter and picked up 97 yards in the fourth quarter.
“It took us a while to get adjusted,” said Buccaneer Coach Casey Mazzotta. “This is the first game we’ve had guys step up with big plays.”
Fullerton controlled the game early, scoring first on a two-yard run by Bill Gonzales which capped a 19-play, 73-yard drive on their first possession.
Bellflower scored 14 unanswered points in the second quarter, the first on a six-yard run by Theo Gradford, who rushed for 119 yards in 27 carries and scored two touchdowns.
Chad Staffieri scored the Indians’ final points on a one-yard run with 8:26 seconds left in the third quarter.
