Shaq Makes Exhibition Debut Tonight
The Lakers open exhibition play tonight against the Denver Nuggets at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, their first game with Shaquille O’Neal.
It may not count, but it can still matter.
“I think the preseason games will be big for us because we have big expectations, and I think we’re going to take it as a challenge,” guard Nick Van Exel said. “We’re going to want to win every game, whereas before we were just going to go out and play and work on things. Now, we want to win. We want to make a statement. We want everybody to know that we’re going to be a good team.”

Magic Johnson said he has signed the papers to become part-owner of the Lakers again, buying back about 5%, the same amount he sold in January as the final step to the comeback. He and owner Jerry Buss reached an agreement in principle several weeks ago.
