Kevin Miller kicked a game-tying, 25-yard field goal, then made a 27-yarder in overtime as Stanford rallied for a 27-24 Pacific 10 victory over Oregon Saturday at Stanford.

Oregon, 3-4 overall and 0-4 in the Pac-10, took a 24-14 lead when Pat Johnson returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown with 9:21 remaining. But Stanford scored the final 10 points in regulation to force the shootout-style overtime instituted this season.

Stanford improved to 2-3, 1-1.

The Ducks’ first overtime possession ended when Tony Graziani, returning from a four-game absence due to a leg injury, fumbled at the end of a scramble. Stanford’s Carl Hansen recovered, and then the Cardinal took its turn from the 25.

Mike Mitchell, who had two touchdown runs in regulation, carried five times and moved the ball to the 10 before Miller came on to kick the game winner.

Chad Hutchinson completed 27 of 41 passes for 365 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown pass to Damon Dunn with 8:02 remaining in regulation to get Stanford close.

A pass to Andre Kirwan gained 49 yards on a fourth-and-12 play, setting up Miller’s 25-yard field goal with 50 seconds remaining to force overtime. Kirwan was well covered but managed to make the catch falling backward.

Washington State 24, Oregon State 3--Shad Hinchen intercepted two passes, returning one for a touchdown, as the Cougars (4-2, 2-1) overcame five turnovers and 189 yards in penalties at Corvallis, Ore.

The loss tied an Oregon State record for consecutive defeats at 15, the longest current skid in major-college football. The Beavers are 0-5, 0-3.

David Moran, a freshman in his first start at quarterback for the Beavers, had a rough afternoon, completing six of 22 passes for 46 yards. His fumble set up one Cougar score, and he had an interception returned for another.
