First Step Taken to Replace Health Center
Los Angeles County took a step toward rebuilding San Fernando Health Center on Tuesday when the Board of Supervisors approved a plan to place a temporary clinic at the site.
The health center, which was located at 604 S. Maclay Ave., was destroyed in the Northridge earthquake.
The county plans to build a new health center on Pico Street in San Fernando. In the meantime, the county is seeking to place temporary modular facilities at the Maclay Avenue site in order to offer health care, officials said.
After the new health clinic is completed the county would trade the Maclay Avenue site to San Fernando for the Pico Street location, which is currently owned by the city, officials said. “Its a good deal for everyone,” said Joel Bellman, a spokesman for Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky.
