Hall Reaches Wheelchair Tennis Round of 16
Costa Mesa’s David Hall easily advanced to today’s round of 16 at the U.S. Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships, with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Joe Perez of Newport Beach Tuesday at the Racquet Club of Irvine.
Also advancing were top-seeded Laurent Giammartini of France, the top-ranked player in the world, No. 3 Steve Welch of Arlington, Texas, No. 5 Chip Parmelly (Diamond Bar) and sixth-seeded Michael Foulks (La Jolla).
In women’s singles, second-seeded Chantal Vandierendonck (Netherlands) defeated Mission Viejo’s Karin Korb, 6-0, 6-0, to advance to today’s quarterfinals. Also advancing from the Netherlands were top-seeded Monique Kalkman, the defending champion, and third-seeded Maaike Smit, the 1996 Paralympic gold medalist.
