Martin Cleans Up for Notre Dame

Kathryn Martin had 14 kills and 12 digs as Notre Dame High defeated Flintridge Sacred Heart, 15-12, 15-13, 15-8, in a Mission League girls’ volleyball match Tuesday night at Sacred Heart.

The Knights (7-2, 2-1 in league) fell behind in each of the first two games but rebounded thanks to Martin and Briana Hadfield, who had 12 blocks.

Danielle Del Ponte had 10 kills for the Tologs (6-2, 2-1), who made 15 service errors.

Chatsworth d. Granada Hills, 15-1, 15-7, 15-7--Jennifer Joseph had 16 kills, including 10 in the third game, in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Chatsworth.

Corinne Briers added nine kills for Chatsworth (4-3, 3-1).

Hart d. Burroughs, 15-0, 15-4, 15-2--Candace Boller had eight kills and five blocks for the Indians (9-1, 3-0) in a Foothill League match at Hart.

Harvard-Westlake d. Alemany, 15-4, 15-5, 15-9--Malaika Naulls and Michelle Wong each had eight kills and six blocks for the Wolverines (6-1, 3-0) in a Mission League match at Alemany.

Saugus d. Burbank, 15-5, 15-7, 15-10--Amy Killian had seven aces for the Centurions (5-2, 2-1) in a Foothill League match at Saugus.

Bell-Jeff d. St. Mary’s, 13-15, 15-8, 15-8, 16-14--Jackie Johnson had 18 kills, three digs and three aces for the Guards (5-3, 3-0) in a Camino Real League match at Bell-Jeff.

La Reina d. Oak Park, 15-1, 15-8, 15-5--Aimee Thompson had six kills, 10 digs and three aces in a Tri-Valley League match at La Reina.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Cal Lutheran d. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 15-5, 15-4, 15-6--Tracy Little had eight kills and four digs as the Regals took only 55 minutes to win their 20th consecutive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at Thousand Oaks.

Jennifer Pappas added six assists for Cal Lutheran (11-3, 7-0), runner-up in the 1995 NCAA Division III championships.

Caroline Vlasis had nine kills for the Athenas (9-13, 2-5).

MEN’S GOLF

Big Sky Conference Championship--Ted Heath of Cal State Northridge shot a one-over-par 73 in the final round to finish third with a 54-hole total of 218 at MeadowWood Golf Course in Spokane, Wash.

Heath and teammate Alex Reynaud, who tied for seventh at 222, paced the Matadors to a sixth-place total of 895.

Sacramento State, with Robert Hamilton and Adam Pohll tying for medalist honors at 211, placed first with 860, followed by Eastern Washington (886), Weber State (889) and Portland State (891).

WOMEN’S GOLF

Big Sky Conference Championship--Karen Johnston of Cal State Northridge tied for 25th in the individual standings for the eighth-place Matadors.

Johnston shot a 17-over-par 89 for a three-round total of 257.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Westlake 14, Channel Islands 3--Erin Smith ran her league victory streak to 63 sets for the Warriors (8-1, 6-1) in a Marmonte League match at Channel Islands.

Grant 7, Reseda 0--Tal Edelstein and Lata Engchawadechasil won in singles play for the Lancers (4-2, 2-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Reseda.

Harvard-Westlake 16, St. Joseph’s 2--Marissa Kase and Jennifer Sun rallied to preserve a doubles sweep for the Wolverines (8-3, 5-1) in a Mission League match at Harvard-Westlake.

Louisville 9, Flintridge Sacred Heart 9--The Royals (6-5, 5-3) edged the Tologs (0-11, 0-6) on games, 76-66, in a Mission League match at Louisville.

Chaminade 15, Bishop Montgomery 3--Erin Nakasone and Julie De La Cruz lost just two games in a doubles sweep for the Eagles (11-0, 7-0) in a Mission League match at Chaminade.
