SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

It didn’t take long for Crescenta Valley High Coach Alan Eberhart to realize a change was needed.

After watching his team fumble three times in the first five minutes, Eberhart returned to the single-back offense the Falcons used earlier this season.

As a result, junior Kenny Pritchett ran wild in a 31-7 victory over Pasadena in a Pacific League opener Thursday night at Glendale High.

Pritchett rushed for 313 yards in 31 carries and scored three times. All three scores came in the first half when he had 212 yards. He also threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Nat Barber.

“Deception and confusion were what we needed tonight,” Eberhart said. “Power football wasn’t going to win for us tonight.”

Crescenta Valley (3-3) limited Pasadena to 104 yards and intercepted two passes.

Pasadena (3-3) scored first when the Bulldogs took advantage of a mishandled snap to Crescenta Valley punter Bob Donnelly.

Tywan Gholar recovered the ball for a touchdown and Victor Carcamo’s extra point gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead.

That set the stage for Pritchett, who scored on runs of 38, 41 and 52 yards.

“We knew we wouldn’t be able to just line up the ball and run against Pasadena,” Eberhart said. “Too many good backs over the years have tried.”
