Two local men were wounded in a drive-by shooting in eastern Oxnard shortly after midnight Saturday.

The shooting occurred as the victims, Mario Vasquez, 20, and Ismael Carrillo, 22, were on their way home while driving north on Julian Street from Santa Lucia Avenue about 12:30 a.m.

As a vehicle approached the victims from the opposite direction on Julian Street, four to six shots were fired from the vehicle at the victims’ car, authorities said.

One of the bullets struck Vasquez in the hand and another grazed Carrillo’s left cheek. Vasquez drove to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, where he and Carrillo were both treated and released, authorities said.

Neither victim was able to provide a description of the person or people who shot at them, nor were they able to describe the other vehicle.

Authorities said the shooting may have been gang-related and are investigating.
