HIGH SCHOOL

* NORTH HOLLYWOOD (3-3, 2-1) vs. SYLMAR (4-2, 3-0)

At Sylmar High, 7:30 p.m.

It could be a golden anniversary of sorts, with Sylmar pursuing its 50th consecutive Valley Pac-8 Conference victory. Based on last year, North Hollywood has a chance to break up any festivities. The Huskies held a 16-0 halftime lead, but Sylmar came back for a 27-24 victory. Sylmar running back Donald Carpenter looked good last week, scoring five touchdowns in a 40-0 rout against Poly. North Hollywood’s ground game is firmly established: Dante Clay has 974 yards and eight touchdowns in 120 carries. The Huskies are less stable at quarterback and will start their fourth different signal-caller, Jose Gonzalez, who has thrown two passes--both interceptions. Sylmar’s Chris Cervantes has completed 37 of 73 passes for 606 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.

* EL CAMINO REAL (4-2, 2-1) vs KENNEDY (4-2, 3-0)

At Kennedy High, 7 p.m.

With the way Taft is playing, this game figures to be for second place in the Northwest Valley Conference. Kennedy has a four-game winning streak during which quarterback Calvin Zinck has completed 48 of 86 passes (56%) for 12 touchdowns. In the Golden Cougars’ two losses, he completed just 39% of his passes for three touchdowns. Running back Jaret Harris, who is averaging 161 yards rushing a game, is another important part in a Kennedy offense that leads the conference in rushing and passing. El Camino Real ranks second in the conference in pass defense, allowing 87 yards a game. The Conquistadores’ offense is led by Quincy Wright, who has rushed for 570 yards, and quarterback Aaron Fredette, who has rushed for 230. El Camino Real has won consecutive games since its 24-21 conference-opening loss to Taft. Kennedy will play without linebacker Byron Williams, who is suspended for disciplinary reasons.

* LITTLEROCK (6-1, 1-0) vs. ANTELOPE VALLEY (4-1, 0-0)

At Antelope Valley High, 7:30 p.m.

Littlerock was the Golden League coaches’ consensus choice for last place, but a victory tonight would move the Lobos into the driver’s seat for the championship. With both teams relying on the run, the game could be decided by execution and turnovers. Littlerock ranks No. 1 among the region’s Southern Section teams with 1,743 rushing yards. Michael Woods has 819 yards and Devon Reese 750. Antelope Valley, two-time defending league champion, has injuries. Running back Eric Mobley and linemen Sal Medina and Michael McNeal are listed as questionable. Littlerock must contain Tony Walker, an all-purpose back who is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. Antelope Valley has won all four meetings by a combined score of 172-46.

* CHAMINADE (3-2-1, 1-0) vs. NOTRE DAME (5-1, 1-0)

At Notre Dame High, 7:30 p.m.

First place usually is on the line when these Mission League rivals meet. This year is no exception. Three-time league champion Notre Dame has defeated Chaminade three years in a row, including last year’s dramatic matchup between 9-0 teams. Chaminade last defeated Notre Dame in 1992, the only year the Eagles won the league title. Notre Dame continues to win with its running game. Chaminade’s strength is defense. That should make for an interesting matchup between the Eagles’ defense and Notre Dame tailback Justin Fargas, the region’s leading rusher with 1,113 yards. The Knights’ defense must contend with Chaminade running backs Steven Hoo (631 yards, 10 touchdowns) and Matthew Markis (417 yards, two touchdowns).

* CAMARILLO (4-2, 3-0) vs. WESTLAKE (5-1, 2-1)

At Westlake High, 7:30 p.m.

This Marmonte League game is a must-win for each team. In the last five years, only one team, Newbury Park at 6-1 in 1992, has lost a league game and won the championship. Westlake quarterback Casey Preston ranks second among the region’s Southern Section passers, having completed 89 of 156 attempts for 1,599 yards and 15 touchdowns. Camarillo quarterback Joe Borchard ranks fifth and has completed 93 of 183 passes for 1,433 yards and 14 touchdowns. Preston’s favorite target is Joey Cuppari, who has 30 receptions for 514 yards and five touchdowns. Borchard most often finds Mike Anger, who has 50 receptions for 706 yards and nine touchdowns. Westlake last week lost to Thousand Oaks, and dropped from No. 1 to No. 5 in The Times’ regional top 10.

* VALENCIA (5-1, 1-0) vs. HART (4-2, 1-0)

At College of the Canyons, 7:30 p.m.

Having won its first-ever Foothill League game against Burbank last week, surprising Valencia meets defending champion Hart. Any hopes for an upset might hinge on a Viking offense that has averaged 391 yards a game. Quarterback Kenny Taylor leads an attack that features running back Donovan Calhoun, whose nose for the end zone has led him to 14 touchdowns this season. Hart will answer with a defense that was stingy during a 24-10 upset of Loyola and last week’s 41-3 victory over Canyon. Quarterback Travis Carroll, completing 65% of his passes, leads the Indians’ offense. He has thrown for 1,253 yards and 13 touchdowns with three interceptions. Taylor (1,015 yards passing) has only one more touchdown (nine) than interceptions. Calhoun has 973 yards in 121 carries.
