Wright Still Needs Plenty of Work

Rookie swingman Lorenzen Wright, the seventh player picked in the draft, made only four of 22 shots in seven exhibitions.
Wright, who broke a bone in his right foot while jogging at the predraft camp in Chicago last June, reported to training camp out of shape after undergoing surgery to have a small screw inserted into his foot.
“He’s light years away from being able to play in this league,” Coach Bill Fitch said. “Like I said when we drafted him, I’ll be happy if he’s helping us at the end of the season.”

The Clippers will be honored Monday at a luncheon at the Biltmore Hotel by the Los Angeles Sports Council. . . . Guard Terry Dehere, who sat out the Clippers’ final two exhibitions because of a sprained left knee, said he’ll be ready for Friday’s regular-season opener against the Golden State Warriors at San Jose.
