A veteran California Highway Patrol officer was hit and killed Saturday night while directing traffic after an Ozzy Osbourne concert.

Ruben Rios, 53, was directing cars along Interstate 15 about 11:30 p.m. when a driver heading west changed lanes and hit him, said CHP Officer Dale Clark.

Authorities arrested Thomas Marquez, 34, of Covina, for investigation of drunken driving and second-degree murder, Clark said. It was not known how fast Marquez was driving.

Rios had been a CHP officer for 22 years.

In an unrelated case, Los Angeles Police Officer Hector Ibarra, 35, was listed in good condition Sunday after undergoing surgery at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, said Officer Mike Partain.

Ibarra, a 14-year LAPD veteran most recently assigned to the Hollenbeck Division, was shot in the foot Saturday evening when he stopped to help a stalled motorist in Lincoln Heights.

Police were searching Sunday for two men, described as Latinos in their 20s or 30s, driving a dark-colored vehicle that was described as having a shattered left rear window and was missing its front license plate, Partain said.
