Burroughs Sinks Burbank, 11-6

Alfonso Tucay scored five goals and Ryan Rittmiller and Brian Carsten scored two each Wednesday to lift Burroughs High to an 11-6 water polo victory over Burbank at Burroughs.

The Indians (7-13, 2-2 in league), led, 5-2, at halftime of the Almont League match en route to defeating the Bulldogs (15-9, 2-2) for the fifth consecutive time. Tucay has 130 goals this season.

Burroughs goalkeeper Nick Triandos made nine saves.

Crespi 14, Notre Dame 13--Gordon Mandich scored with 12 seconds remaining to give Crespi (12-13, 3-1) a Mission League victory that clinched the Celts’ 19th consecutive playoff appearance.

Mandich’s shot deflected off the hands of Notre Dame goalkeeper Matt Pennington and into the net.

Chris Helin had six goals and Ricky Bejune had five for Crespi.

Crespi jumped to a 6-1, first-half lead, but Notre Dame (1-3 in league) came back to take a 10-9 lead in the third quarter. Notre Dame’s John Horwitz had three of his six goals in that quarter.

Loyola 19, Alemany 12--Bryan Peterson had four goals, Cole Wieland and Josh Wilson each added three, but Alemany (9-6, 1-3) was no match for Loyola (17-2, 4-0) in a Mission League match.

Royal 25, Westlake 1--Joe Andelin scored five goals for Royal (18-5, 6-0) in a Marmonte League match at Westlake.

Thousand Oaks 22, Newbury Park 15--Despite having four starters sit out because of the flu, the Lancers (13-10, 3-3) clinched a playoff berth in a Marmonte League match.

Dana Christensen had seven goals and Charles Austin had 12 saves for Thousand Oaks.

Drew Loganbill had eight goals for Newbury Park.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

North Hollywood d. Grant 15-3, 15-2, 15-6--Takui Karapogosyan had 12 kills, Ashley Fargeon had nine kills and Leslie Lima had 27 assists and the Huskies (7-5, 5-4) swept the Lancers (0-12, 0-9) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at North Hollywood.

Van Nuys d. Canoga Park, 15-2, 15-2, 15-7--Sisters Angela and Melody Eckmier each had seven kills and three blocks for Van Nuys (10-1, 9-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Canoga Park (8-3, 3-1).

Arcadia d. Hoover, 15-4, 15-3, 15-5--Bridget Pearson had four kills and Afza Sattaur had eight digs for Hoover (5-7, 3-5) in a Pacific League match.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Camarillo 14, Thousand Oaks 4--Darian Chappell won three sets without dropping a game at No. 1 singles for the Scorpions (14-1, 12-0), who clinched a share of the Marmonte League title.

Katy Messmer lost just four games in sweeping her sets at No. 2 singles.

Leila Jiran and Angela Chen won two sets at No. 2 doubles for Thousand Oaks.

Westlake 15, Newbury Park 3--Singles players Helena Horak, Erin Smith and Katie Smith did not lose a game for Westlake (13-3, 10-2) in a Marmonte League match at North Ranch Country Club.

Simi Valley 14, Channel Islands 4--Margo O’Donnell and Stella Chu dropped only one game while sweeping their three sets as Simi Valley (12-4, 8-4) won a Marmonte League match at Channel Islands (0-12).

Lindsay Fredrickson and doubles partner Melissa Hoadley were promoted from the junior varsity and won two of their three matches for the Pioneers.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Cal Lutheran 1, Pomona Pitzer 0--Holly Roepke scored her 14th goal for the Regals (16-2, 11-0), who clinched their sixth consecutive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title. In those six seasons, the Regals are 69-1-1 in the conference.
