Diwali Mela, an Indian festival of lights, will be Saturday from noon to 9:30 p.m. at La Palma Park in Anaheim.
Kamini Khare, a founding member of the India Assns. of Southern California, a sponsor of the event, said that Diwali Mela is a traditional Hindu festival celebrated across India.
Khare said the free public event is expected to draw more than 1,000 people for an opportunity to learn about India’s culture, traditions and Hinduism.
Khare said that the festival is the Indian community’s “way of inviting American friends to share our rich cultural heritage and bring peace and harmony to everyone in the community.”
Hindu religious ceremonies with dance, stories and music are scheduled throughout the day. A cultural program of dance and song by classical performers will be from 2 to 8:30 p.m.
A free lunch will be served from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the park, Harbor Boulevard and La Palma Avenue.
