A runway at John Wayne Airport was temporarily closed Monday night after a Cessna pilot forgot to lower the landing gear and skidded to a stop, authorities said.

The four-seat Cardinal Cessna 177 landed at John Wayne Airport en route from Las Vegas about 6 p.m. , said Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Lynn Nehring. The plane suffered minor damage, but neither person aboard was injured, according to Federal Aviation Administration operations officer Diana Jourbart.
